Featuring: CAMILLE
Ten years ago Gretchen Camille Lafond started to sew in an attempt to get “the look for less.” Something clicked, and her mom’s impeccable lessons on pattern-making were put to use when she joined madeMOIselle Boston as one half of the designing duo. Since 2004, as part of madeMOIselle Boston, she has shown at local universities, Fall ‘n Love Fashion Shows, the Go Red for Heart Disease Campaign Red Dress event in 2007, Fashion Evolution during BFW 2009, Providence Fashion Week 2010, and many more runways.

Somewhere between yards of silk dupony and sticking pins in Bella (her favorite mannequin) she wrote a poem. And another one. And soon performance met poetry, first at Poetic Escape, and any open forum that would allow her.

Not limiting the medium by which her art is expressed, in a rare opportunity, fashion meets poetry. Her poems on life, love, sadness, and laughter ruffle the hemlines of her ultra-feminine designs marked by her unique use of lines and color.

At this month's Poetic Escape, Lafond will show pieces from her very first solo collection “Ciel by Camille Lafond” and will share poems from a collection entitled “an intimate revolt.”

DJ Damir will be in the building spinning the best in R&B, Neo-Soul, Old-School, and Hip-Hop.
Remember, it's Fashion Week, so DRESS TO IMPRESS! (Please no hats or Timbs)

All About Camille - featured poet @ Poetic Escape 5.26.10

ABOUT POETIC ESCAPE'S UPCOMING FEATURED POET - CAMILLE:

Um, if you know her, you'll probably say she's weird and random. (Don't worry, she's not offended.) As far as artists go, those are two welcomed traits.

She wrote her first poem too long ago to remember, and has been filling notebooks ever since. During her years at the nation's first public high school, Boston Latin School, her love for performing was kindled. She was an active participant in one of the school's oldest traditions: Declamation - an oratorical contest. Can she sing? We don't know, but during her junior and senior years, she was co-president of the Wolfettes, the school's first all-female a capella vocal group. It wasn't until about 17 months ago, when performance met poetry, like two destined lovers, or like the apple on Einstein's head. And just like that, she discovered a new passion.

If poetry is life, then performance is living. Love poems, silly poems, stupid poems, funny poems, real poems, poems to make you cry; everything and everyone is a source of inspiration...because everything is poetry.

Aside from sitting around writing poems all day, she studied English and Communications at Boston College (what else!?), and is currently taking just enough classes to ward off her trifling baby-mother, Sallie Mae.

Artistic expression knows no limit, which explains why she is one half of the designing duo, madeMOIselle Boston. They have shown their collections at numerous shows; their latest showing is at Style Week in Providence this June.

Because she never shuts up, she co-hosts the Ask Mr. Wrong Show with Mr. Wrong, himself, Monday nights from 10p-12a on Divefm.com. Nothing is off limits. Nothing.

What she thinks about this miniature biographical write-up: "biographies are a little weird before you're dead. And autobiographies are a little pretentious, don't you think? Which is why I wrote this in the third person."
